Assessment Made Easy... An ESGI Giveaway!

The beginning of the school year is just around the corner.  My room is ready, and I've already met some of my Kindergarten Kids for the 2014-2015 school year.  It's surreal to think that in just a few short days, we will be diving into reading, writing, and learning about numbers, all the while assessing each of these skills.

When I started teaching, I had to do all of these assessments orally, using a pencil and paper to document each student's knowledge of the skill.  While it was worthwhile, it took a really, really long time.  As soon as I would finish the days (yes, days) of assessment, it felt like no time passed before I had to start assessing again.  It was a never-ending cycle.

A couple of years ago, our district kindergarten teachers came together after using the trial of a product that changed the way we do assessment.  We approached our administration, and they saw the need to slash that assessment time and give us more teaching time.  ESGI was purchased for our teachers, and our classrooms have benefitted in ways I can't even describe.

ESGI is easy to use.  Simply add your class, load the tests you wish to use (you can create your own or pick tests already loaded into the library), and assess away.  My favorite thing about ESGI is that I can access my account from any computer or device.  I frequently use my iPad to assess students when we are in small group time, doing centers, or when I have a second to squeeze in an assessment.

This picture illustrates the simplicity and ease of ESGI.  The student is completing a sight word assessment.  No flashcards... No paper trail... Just simple!

Another fabulous component of ESGI is the resources available to teachers outside of just the assessment piece.  In this program, I can print flashcards of concepts not yet mastered by each individual student, generate parent communication letters, and analyze the data from the assessments.

ESGI has given me back so many crucial hours of instruction.  It's saved my sanity many, many times.  I can't put into words how much I LOVE ESGI!!!

I would love to share this program that has transformed my classroom with you!

  5. When I taught Kindergarten, I did exactly the same thing that you did. I loved using this program and was so lucky to have an supportive administrator who purchased it for us, which lead to the district purchasing for all of the K teachers in our district, we had around 16 at the time. Now that I teach 1st I don't have it, but most of our assessment is written now - thanks to the state :-(

  7. As a special education teacher, it is important to be able to use a wide variety of assessments with my students. It is great that assessments can be done in various settings (classroom, library, etc) and the data can be kept cohesive for each child.
